I have been working for about two years now on building myself a storage shed in the backyard. It started out much more ambitious than it is now, initially being a 16′x16′ shed with power, plumbing, and insulation. In the long term I’d still like to add all three of those, but due to permitting regulations I scaled it back to 12′x12′ and have held off any of those amenities, as they’d all require permits in and of themselves.

The shed itself, however, is very nearly complete, with the exception of siding, and the front door. As of late however, I’ve realized that the thing holding me back from finishing this behemoth project has pretty much just been myself. That, and the half a dozen other projects around the house that have been started in the meantime!

One of which, these photos are showing. We currently have within the envelope of our house a small storage area, this area has been filled with miscellaneous junk since we bought the house. An interesting side note here, I was particularly frustrated by how useless this space was as-is, the shelves were too deep, all on one side, and not of the most sturdy construction. As a bonus though, while cleaning out the room I discovered a power receptacle hidden under the bottom shelf! If the shelves hadn’t been 3′ deep and 20″ off the floor I might have not decided to build the new shed in the first place! Some of the junk (Including two 5 gallon buckets of builder-beige high gloss interior paint) was actually in the room before we closed. Well no more!

Over the weekend Julie, myself, and Alyssa tore into the mess and moved (and organized) everything that wasn’t nailed down out to my semi-completed storage shed. With any luck I will be able to insulate this space this week in the evenings and have it ready to be incorporated into the house as a pantry by the end of the month! I’ll add new photos as I demolish all the old shelves in there as well. (It is my plan to save all the lumber from the shelves and that I’ll reuse the majority of it create shelves and a cabinet in the new shed.)

Expect more photos later in the week detailing the rest of the demolition process!
